The first screenshot of the Ancient Sandworm is pretty intimidating. That is one crazy sandworm in a sandy sea of emptiness. I really dislike the Tatooine landscape; personal preference I suppose.

I also find myself losing track time in the game as well. It's pretty similar effect for myself as if I was in a casino for awhile lol.

I agree, but there are some things that are missing/badly done that cannot be recovered from. For example, the auction house UI is horrible. Once people get used to NOT using the GTN, it's hard to break them of that habit and get them to use it later on. It usually takes a complete overhaul of the game's economy to rekindle interest in using that tool. I know personally, if it's not blue or better, I just vendor most drops I get. That's one feature that I think is a 'must have', along with a working guild management tool and chat features. Basically, I think the community building features need to be refined and polished or else your MMO becomes a single player game with other people as NPCs.

I think you're right to a point. Personally, I am totally unhappy with how my Gunslinger's tank alt (Corso) is working out. At 29, fighting elites in Alderaan (Thul Cryo-Troopers and the War Apprentices in one of your screenshots), he takes way too much damage, in my view. On one pull, I got two of them (the patroller and the static) and while I tanked one (and killed it), he got killed by the other and only did about 40% damage to it (and I finished it off). There are many reasons why my Vanguard adores Elara. In that same area, he basically plowed through the 5 elites needed for the quest AND the bonus objectives AND the Paladins quests. There's a reason why so many Sith Warriors (especially Juggernauts) roll with 2V (ship droid) instead of Vette. Healer companions are universally useful (even to healer PCs since you can switch them to DPS mode and still get the heals). His gear is at level (crafted by my Gunslinger, except the non-visibles) and above what the quest rewards for Alderaan are (which is why I have so many comms). My Vanguard has to go farming for more mats to make me more prototype tech med kits (the PC & companion heal + HoT medpacs) because I go through them so much, trying to keep Corso standing.

I'm not saying he's 'weak' since I know plenty of people who get good use out of him. But comparing gear sets, for the most part, I'm okay. Couple that with the fact that I am UNDERlevel for my class quest (group of guildies ran through a bunch of missions, a few of which were my class missions. Now I'm 29 with a level 32 class quest) and it's going to be interesting the next few levels with Corso. I'm going to gear up Bowdaar to see if maybe he turns out better. Hopefully I can find a style that works best to keep the companion alive (we rarely wipe but Corso dies frequently to -1 elites and/or multiple strongs. Force forbid we get adds!).

All that to say, I see and understand (and agree) with what you're saying. But being in the position of possibly uttering the " is weak" line, it's hard to resist it when you get results you're not altogether happy with.

Shadows aren't avoidance tanks. Their "Combat Technique" tanking buff that they get at level 14 increases their armor rating by 150% when active, which takes it up to Heavy Armor levels. In fact, my Shadow's armor rating gives me a higher base rating than on my Guardian which wears heavy armor right now. The only thing that's considered "avoidance" on a Shadow is that they use the Kinetic Ward ability to boost their shield chance to 35% instead of the other 2 tanks' 20% base.

The typical tanking spec for a Shadow is <a href="http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#601rcMskrskbsZZf0cM.1" rel="nofollow">here</a>. I'm currently only level 28, so I'm like <a href="http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#601bcMskRc.1" rel="nofollow">this</a> as I work up toward that.

The suggested leveling path is to get to 30 with pure Kinetic and getting that "Force Pull" ability, then putting the 10 points into the Balance tree, then finishing up Kinetics in the final 10 levels.

Stat focus is: (Defense/Shield/Absorption)>Willpower>Endurance. Yeah, endurance is the source of your HP bonus, but this game gives you huge HP pools to begin with, so it's not as important as the straight-up mitigation stats, followed by the Willpower to increase your dps and threat.

As for the bikini, if you've got 28,000 extra credits to spare before level 20 to buy the one from the Key vendor, be my guest. I didn't on my Shadow. Though since my Shadow and Trooper had accumulated a bit of cash they sent it to my Guardian to buy the Republic Dancer outfit for Kira. They don't quite look the same though -- different color palettes ;-)

Could you post (or give an idea of) your build on your Shadow? I had always thought about going that route but I've had horrible luck with 'tanks in tissue armor' in the past. Evasion based tanking is always a lot better sounding than practical, unless an imbalance exists (see: Monks in EQ1 pre-Luclin; Ice tankers in CoH until Issue 9/Inventions). The Sage is just easy money, so to speak, but I did have the same idea you did. There's a Republic dancer set available from the Security Key vendor that looks the same (and is available sooner, I think).

Corso called me on the comm and said that the Seps were attacking the hangar and I should get back to help asap. I got back and found Corso wounded by Skavak who'd been working with the Seps and had given them access in order to take over the hangar so they could steal the ship and the load of weapons. Just becuz Skavak was the pilot of my stolen ship and the attacking Seps had already cleared out by the time I made it back doesn't mean that they weren't there and involved in the theft. I'm not seeing your point of distinction.

As to the races. . . some of it was determined by the name I chose and my concept for the class/race combo going into it. I like the idea of a Cyborg for the Trooper so he can theoretically plug the cybernetics into his armor. For some reason I just can't abide the Zabrak's look in TOR, so I didn't want that race at all (I did try making a couple, male and female both, but. . . nah. Weird since my 1st character in SWG was a Zabrak and I loved it to death then.) and by the time I got around to making a BH I'd used all the other ones and didn't want just a "regular" human, so it got Cyborg'd up too, though the implants are largely hidden in her hair. I'd planned to make a Chiss IA since forever. If I could have I'd have made my SW a Rattataki instead, but that wasn't an option. I tried Zabrak, but the facial tattoos didn't work for the concept I have behind the name ("Guuk" is my big bald pasty-faced ogre monk in EQ2, so Guuk in SWTOR has to be a dual-wielding, bald pasty-faced guy too) so I ended up going Pureblood since it still seemed pasty-faced enough to me. I'll admit that I'd rather have a Ratta Warrior and a Pureblood Inquisitor (just to see how the story'd be different without everyone constantly harping on me becuz I'm an alien and not a Pureblood), but it still works out.

The rest just kind of fell in. I'd liked the blind race ("Mirial-whatever") as a Consular in the beta, so I stuck with that, but since I plan to be a tank-y Shadow, I decided to go big and burly. And the cybernetic looking mask went well with that idea, I thought. Cyborg was already established for trooper. Decided to go with the other "Mirial-whatever" race for the JK, so my only real option left for Smuggler was the Twi'lek, since I was avoiding Human and Zabrak.

As Smuggler is my main, I think it's important to note that it wasn't "separatists" who were stealing ships, it was a mole (Skavak) who was already established at that particular installation. "They" didn't steal anything, HE did (and he just so happened to be working for them at the time). They hadn't overrun the base yet, he let them in through the back door. This is partially explained in the Smuggler intro btw.

You seem to have taken a liking to the cyborgs though. :) Never even considered a Rattataki Inquisitor though (mine are Zabrak (male) and Human (female) due solely to voiceover and look). I don't even have a Twi'lek (since they were SO common in beta. Couldn't run 10 feet without tripping over four in Ord Mantell and Tython).

With Trooper as your main, you probably don't have any problems with your first companion. Trooper will be the absolute last class I even bother with because I despise their first companion (yes, I know. Highly irrational, but the story engenders that dislike). The second one is a doll though, I love her. Hopefully by the time I get around to Trooper, I will have found a way to breeze through the first 22 levels in record time to get to her.
